- Locate visible channels, lake edge, wet ground and crossings.
- Mark a provisional streamside management area for authority or professional review.
- Keep machine access, debris and concentrated runoff out of water where practicable.
- Select crossings and work timing to reduce soil disturbance.
- Define stabilization and follow-up invasive control after the initial pass.
